Allen Martin

Allen Martin, 71, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born November 1, 1945 in Gaffney, SC. Allen was the son of the late Bert and Lula Parris Martin. He was a graduate of Blacksburg Centralized High School, Limestone College, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He served in the South Carolina Army National Guard from 1965-1971. Allen was a retired teacher with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, having had the honor of teaching many outstanding students and working with outstanding educators. He was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church. Allen was blessed with a truly wonderful family. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Martha Ann McLean Martin and his children, Erik Scott Martin and Amanda Ann Martin; also surviving are his sisters, Vivian Martin, Sybil Martin, twin sister, Aileen Towery all of Blacksburg, SC, Marilyn Patterson of Anderson, SC and Glenda Jolly of Gaffney, SC; 18 nieces and nephews and 17 great-nieces and nephews. Allen enjoyed many aspects of life, especially Christmas, canoeing, and visiting the beach. Time spent with family and friends was highly valued. Reading was a favorite pastime and contributed to his enjoyment of helping students learn about many subjects. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Q. Ray Burke officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 PM in the church parlor.
