Allen ""Keith"" Grubbs left his earthly body unexpectedly in the early hours of Sunday, February 21, 2016. Keith was born August 21, 1950 in Forsyth County to Robert L. Grubbs, Jr. and Grace Parks Grubbs.
He was a happy, red-haired kid who loved playing sports, riding bikes and hanging out with his buddies, many of whom remained lifelong friends. In recent years, he had made a point of reconnecting with friends from long ago. Everywhere he went, Keith readily made lasting friendships.
He went to the brand-new Parkland High School, graduating in 1968 with letters in track and field, and football. While at Parkland, he met Marsha Lynn Cude, who was to later become his wife.
Keith attended Western Carolina University for two years, but left to come back to Winston-Salem to marry his high school sweetheart in 1970. The young couple moved to Durham, NC where Marsha was attending UNC-CH. Keith got his first ""real"" job at Thalhimers in downtown Durham, and quickly rose through the ranks from a salesman in the Men's department to Store Manager of the Cameron Village Thalhimers in Raleigh, NC. In 1983, he left Thalhimers and joined Lowe's (Hardware) where he finished out his career. After working for Lowe's in Raleigh, Richmond, VA and Chesapeake, VA, he retired at age 49, ""because he could"". When Marsha retired in 2010, they moved to Lake Norman to enjoy their retirement in ""paradise"" on the water.
Keith enjoyed many interests, including antique/thrift store shopping, NASCAR racing, exotic cars (Jaguars), and politics. He read The Charlotte Observer from cover to cover every day, focusing his attention on the Op-Ed section. Anyone who knew Keith recognized that he was a caring, generous and loving person, who every day tried to live out Matthew 22:39b, ""Love your neighbor as you love yourself."" He was constantly doing thoughtful acts of kindness with care and concern for others.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jane Grubbs Carter, and a niece, Kara Grace Kirk man. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marsha; a niece, Merry Murray; and three nephews, Jamie Carter, Jace Murray, and Ryan Weir.
