Doctor Allen Ralph Ellington, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Clemmons, NC on February 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born on March 28, 1933 in Belmont, NC to the late Irvin R. Ellington and Addie Belle Orr Ellington. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1951 and received his Bachelor’s (1955) and Master’s (1963) Degrees from Appalachian State University. Allen was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1955 – 1957, including 16 months in the Republic of Korea. He received his Doctorate’s Degree from the University of Georgia in 1972, where he was admitted to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Allen was a Professor of Business Administration at North Georgia College and State University from 1964 – 1994, where he was an Alumni Distinguished Professor and charter member of Phi Kappa Phi, President of Phi Kappa Phi, Chairman of the Faculty Senate, President of the Athletic Booster Club, and President of the Ninth District Business Teachers. He was an active member of the Georgia Association of Accounting Instructors and wrote a curriculum guide for Georgia high school business teachers. He was president of the school PTA and president of the Gainesville High School Band Boosters in Gainesville, GA. Since moving to Clemmons, he was an active member of the Clemmons United Methodist Church.

Allen was predeceased by his son John Allen Ellington, his sisters Patsy Ellington Haney, Kathleen Ellington Hargett and Ann Ellington Cowan, and his brother Irvin R. Ellington Jr. He is survived by Doctor Billie Jean Jones Ellington, his wife of 58 years, his daughter Jennifer Ann Ellington and her husband Samuel A. Moore III, his grandchildren Andrew John Moore and Kathleen Marie Moore, his nieces Lynn Haney Barnes and Lara Ellington Brink, and his nephews Mark Dagenhart, Steven Hargett, Bryan Hargett, and Joseph Haney. Other special people in his life are Colvin (Pete) Ingram and Gail Loggins Ingram; their son Kevin Ingram and his wife Christy; their daughter Kerry Ingram Morris and her husband Dan; and their grandchildren Benjamin Ingram, Casey Ingram and his daughter Charlie, Haley Ingram Mahan, Jonathan Ingram, Trey Morris, Tristan Morris, and Katherine Morris.

Following current Covid-19 health guidelines, the family will hold a memorial service and celebration of Allen’s life at a later date. Any memorial donations in Allen’s name can be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church.
