He was the second of nine children born to the late William and Lillian Wakefield Cude on November 27, 1921 in Winston-Salem. Allan graduated from Gray High School, and joined the Navy at the beginning of World War II. After serving the duration of WWII, he met and married his devoted partner, Elsie Jones, on January 4, 1947. Together they built a happy home in Winston-Salem with their two daughters. He played on various softball teams during his life, including the CWA Local, Dewey's Bakery and Hopewell Moravian Church. He was highly successful as an amateur golfer, winning the Forsyth Senior Games many times, and the NC Senior Games Championship three times. He loved the Atlanta Braves and never missed watching them play. Hopewell Moravian Church was an important part of Allan's life. He joined the church after marrying Elsie, and was a faithful and active member throughout, serving as song leader, teacher, Boy Scout leader, board member and choir member.
