Alice Elizabeth Lewis

Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Lewis entered the church Triumphant on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Born on January 29, 1914 in Sygan, Alleghany County, PA to Joseph and Maud Skidmore Hunter, she was the third of nine children. She was a proud ""Coal Miner's Daughter"" and enjoyed a long and healthy life. Mrs. Lewis was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pennsylvania and a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church. She and her husband, the late Walter C. Lewis, enjoyed a 25 year retirement in Dunedin, FL before moving to Winston-Salem to be near their daughter. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Joan L. Pike and husband August of Winston-Salem, a sister, Grace Kovach of Middlesex, NJ; a brother Louis Hunter and wife Julia of Phoenix, AZ; three granddaughters, Elizabeth P. Shatterly and husband Jeffrey, Cynthia P. Owens and husband William, and Allison C. Pike; two great grandchildren, Jillian and Alexander Owens; and 18 nieces and nephews in NJ, PA, AZ, FL, WV, and TN. A service will be conducted 2:30 pm Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Tuesday, prior to the service, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
