Alice Shimkonis Lashmit

Mrs. Alice Shimkonis Lashmit, 89, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday morning, October 15, 2008 at her home, surrounded by her family, following a long battle with cancer. She was born January 20, 1919 in Tamaqua, PA.. She was a member of Hope Moravian Church, the Women's Fellowship, the Clemmons VFW and the Women of the Moose. Mrs. Lashmit was retired from Hanes Hosiery with 23 years of service. She had a love for all sports and was an avid bowler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lee Lashmit and her son, Michael ""Smiley"" Lashmit. Surviving are two daughters, Marian L. Hall and Etta L. Ratledge and husband Kenneth, all of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Melanie Harris of Mocksville, Marsi Mullins of Kingsport, TN., and Brian P. Ratledge of Raleigh; three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Hope Moravian Church with Rev. David Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 pm Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Betsy English of WS Health Care and to the nurses and caregivers of Hospice and Palliative Care especially volunteer, Phisa Joyce for their love and support.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, W-S, N.C. 27103 or to Hope Moravian Church, 2759 Hope Church Rd., W-S, N.C. 27127.
