Miss Alice R. Charles, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Alice was born December 7, 1925 in Hardin County, Iowa to the late Harrison Charles and Georgia O'Mara Charles. She retired from RJR Tobacco Company after 39 years of faithful service. A member of Rosemont Baptist Church, Alice enjoyed traveling the world in her younger years and later in life enjoyed gardening. Her passion was rescuing and rehabilitating baby squirrels. She will be fondly remembered as a loving sister and aunt. Alice is predeceased by sisters, Ruby Charles and Hazel Nance, and brothers, Clarence Charles, Lonnie Charles, and Lawrence Charles.

Alice is survived by sisters, Mary Butner of Winston-Salem, Mildred Holbrook of Clemmons, Margaret Brown of California, Betty Charles of Clemmons, and Charlotte Ingles of Burlington; brother, George Charles of Mocksville; and several loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Alice's life will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 at 1 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 6pm - 8pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
