Alice "Breva" Scott

With heavy but grateful hearts, we announce the passing of Alice Breva Scott. Breva passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2024 at Cadence Retirement Community in Clemmons, NC. Her last years were made comfortable by the loving attention of her daughter Marsha Scott and longtime caregiver Niyirah Douthit. Breva lived a long and fulfilling life of devotion to her family, friends and faith. She is survived by her two children, Marsha and Dane, daughter-in-law Leslie Scott, grandchildren, Sam Scott and Katy Scott-Harvey, Katy’s husband, Joseph Harvey, and many nieces and nephews. Breva began life in rural Arkansas. Huerta Mae Robinson gave birth to her in Portland, Arkansas on March 28, 1931. Breva’s childhood was marked by ups and downs as her father, Elmer Robinson moved between jobs. Breva had three brothers, Elmer Jr., Eddie, Eugene and one sister, Mildred—who all preceded her in death. Huerta Mae loved to laugh with her children, and occasionally played pranks on them, once making them a disguised “sawdust pie.” Joy marked Breva’s relationship with her family, particularly with her mother and sister, Mildred. On visits, they would sit for hours in the kitchen enjoying sweet iced tea and much laughter. Breva shared her adult life with her attentive and devoted husband, Noel Dane Scott, who passed in 2022. The couple were married on August 18, 1950 in Woodlawn, Arkansas. Breva's adventurous spirit served her well. Soon after Marsha’s birth in 1954, the young couple left the familiar comfort of family, and the greenery of Arkansas, for the Arizona desert. Noel accepted a job teaching on the Hopi Indian reservation situated in the remote, northeast corner of Arizona. They grew to love Arizona and would spend their free time exploring the high desert with their energetic young daughter. At that time, there were no paved roads in the area, and Noel had to drive a pregnant Breva 40 miles on dirt roads to give birth to Dane, who decided to arrive early in 1957. Breva and Noel enjoyed the small community on the reservation, and formed several life-long friendships as they shared many potlucks and games of Bridge. Breva made close friends in all the many places the family settled for Noel’s career as a teacher and school administrator in Arizona and California. Breva particularly enjoyed her time in Riverside, California, where they settled in 1969 and she could be seen driving her sporty Chevy Camaro. Once Dane and Marsha were grown, Breva started a rewarding career with Bible Study Fellowship. She served as a teacher and area administrator for this large, national organization for over two decades. Breva was able to fulfill her lifelong commitment and love to Jesus Christ through her service to the many women in BFS. In retirement, Breva and Noel moved to North Carolina in 1994 to help care for their grandchildren, Sam and Katy. Breva and Noel were a true extended family, spending countless hours nurturing and educating their grandchildren. Breva often would say that this was a highlight of her long life. She adored both of her grandchildren; she loved making her grandson, Sam, laugh, and playing dress up with her look-alike granddaughter, Katy.

The family will return Breva and her beloved Noel to Arkansas, where their adventures together began. They will be laid to rest at the O’Neel family cemetery near Star City, Arkansas where some years earlier they had installed a commemorative bench for family and friends to be able to sit and reminisce about the good times and honor them both with joy and laughter.
