Alice Elyse Charles Borden

Alice Elyse Charles Borden, 94, wife of the late Jesse James Borden left us on February 21, 2014. Alice was born and raised in Winston-Salem by Mary Charles Hoots and Herman F. Hoots (known as Bud and Pop) on February 25, 1919. As well as lovingly raising her children, Alice graduated from Griffith High School and Draughon Business College. She worked at Mutual of Omaha for many years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church on Fifth in Winston-Salem. Alice loved her family, traveling, playing bridge, reading, crossword puzzles, golf, painting, gardening, and crafting. She traveled the United States and the world with her husband and friends. She loved annual family beach trips to the Carolina coast. She is and will always be much loved by her sons, David Borden (Lynne) of Supply, NC, Paul Borden (Mary) of Columbia, SC, daughter, Shelvie Higgins (A.W.) of Greensboro, daughter-in-law Freda Borden of Winston-Salem, former daughter-in-law Brenda Borden of Winston-Salem. Grandchildren: Russell Borden (Katie), Laura Gossett (Tim), Hayley Clothier (Chad), Jamie Prince (Jack), Von Eric Martin (Kelly), Lex Martin, Lori Wood (Jonah), David Gray Crater, Traci Kirkland (Chad); 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great Grandchild. In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by a son Jim Borden. She always made her family feel loved and appreciated. All of her children agree that they could never have had a better mother and friend! A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church on Fifth, 501 West 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane South East, Bolivia, NC 28422.
