Alfred Lewis Esposito

Brig General Alfred Lewis Esposito passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015. General Esposito was born on September 26, 1923 and grew up in Redbank, New Jersey. He graduated in 1941 and the fall of 1942 joined Army Air Corps Reserves. Soon after he was ordered to active duty as an Aviation Cadet. Upon graduation from pilot training in March 1944, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the army Air Corps assigned to combat crew training and later selected to be a flight instructor in P-47 Tactical aircraft. During the period 1946-1955 he held various flying and administrative duties in the United States and overseas. In August 1955, he entered the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson AFB Ohio where he earned a BS in Aeronautical Engineering in 1957. His next assignment was to Air Research and Development Command at Wright Patterson where he held numerous positions in research and development. In 1962 General Esposito was selected for graduate training at the University of Connecticut and received a MBA in September 1963. He then returned to HQ US Air Force upon graduation where he worked with Weapons systems development through 1968 in charge of many programs. He was promoted to Brig Gen in 1968. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff Personnel, Air Force Command Center and Executive Director, Procurement and Production, Defense Supply Agency. He was then appointed Director of Procurement Policy, office the Secretary of Defense, a position from which he retired on July 31, 1973. He returned to Washington DC to devote his full attention consulting with the Surveys and Investigative Committee of the House Appropriations. General Esposito was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Winston-Salem, NC and was honored to be selected as a Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He received the title of Ambassador Extraordinary of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Pat McCrory of North Carolina. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) in Winston-Salem, NC and a member of the 130 Club at Forsyth Country Club. General Esposito is survived by his wife Theresa H. Esposito, and his daughters, Sharon Esposito MD, Carolyn Stephens PhD, Carol Kurtz and 7 grandchildren. A private service will held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church with Interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
