Alan Lester Stewart, Sr.

Mr. Alan Lester Stewart, Sr., 83, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Silas Creek Manor. He was born November 7, 1926 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Lester Eugene and Nona Yountz Stewart. He served with the US Navy during World War II. He loved life and was an avid bingo player. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Gene Stewart and Robert Edward Stewart and one sister, Lois Stewart Martin. Survivors include one son, Alan L. Stewart, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Salisbury; one daughter, Norma Susie Williamson and husband, DeWitt of Myrtle Beach, SC, three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Neil Stewart and wife, Vickie, Tony Dean Stewart and wife, Linda and Jimmy Roger Stewart of Winston-Salem and Zane Gray Stewart and wife, Louise of Lewisville; two sisters, Carol Stewart Branch and Nancy Stewart Hopkins of Winston-Salem; thirteen nephews; eight nieces (special niece, Chris) and a special friend Barbara. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ottis Hurst officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway.
