Ailene Slate Smith

Colfax -Ailene Slate Smith, 78, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 12, 1930 in Stokes Co. to the late Roy McKinley and Lottie Maude Rogers Slate. Ailene was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax. She was also active in the senior groups at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Colfax Fire Department. Ailene retired from Highland Industries in Kernersville after 30 years of service. She enjoyed visiting her friends and shut-ins and touched many lives through her homemade soup. She truly loved her family and friends, and will be dearly missed by all. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton ""Farm"" Smith; one brother, Ralph Slate; three sisters, Alma Gallimore, Lucille Rogers, and Rosie Caine. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Tucker and husband Larry, and Carol Snipes; two sons, Lee Smith and wife Gwen all of Colfax and Brian Smith of Kernersville; seven grandchildren, Brandi Smith, Thad Tucker and wife Heather, Jason Tucker, Cari Snipes, Greg Snipes and wife Megan, Jenna Bergan and husband Matt, and Drew Smith; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Turner of Gastonia, and brother-in-law Bobby Caine of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville by the Rev. Phil Kirkman, the Rev. Sam White, and the Rev. Chuck Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Young at Heart Ministry, 119 N. Bunker Hill Rd., Colfax, NC 27235. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sherry Ryter-Brown, Dr. Judith Hopkins, Carole Holt, PA their staff, the Oncology staff at Forsyth Medical Center, and the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the care provided to our mother.
