On March 7, 2016, Ada Lee Jester quietly passed away in her room at the Wesleyan at Scenic in Georgetown, Texas after a 20 year battle with Alzheimer's disease. She had just turned 97 years old. Ada Lee was born in Yadkinville, North Carolina on February 24nd, 1919. She was the sixth child of eight children born to B.C. and Vallie Lucinda Money. She was raised in a very loving Christian family and her love of hugs, kisses and holding hands continued throughout her whole life. Ada Lee was left a widow with a small child at age 23 after her husband Glenn Whitaker died of malaria. She then went to work for a family in the Yadkinville area, but her mother wanted her to come home. Ada Lee did come home and then worked at The Carbon Plant in the Pilot Mountain area during the war while her parents took care of her son. The day the war ended, the plant closed. Ada Lee then took a factory job in Winston-Salem. She met Onie Lee Jester when she carpooled to work with him from Yadkinville. Ada Lee and Onie were married in 1949 and moved to Stanleyville where they had purchased some property. Ada Lee kept busy raising kids, working at Duplan, and making a house a home. She cried when they moved 500 feet from a smaller house to a larger house in 1961, but stayed there until Onie's death in 1998. Ada Lee was already showing some signs of Alzheimer's disease so she moved to Austin to live with her daughter and family. Even with Alzheimer's robbing her of her memories, she retained her incredibly sweet spirit and thankfulness to the very end. She was a true blessing and an example of a loving Christian. We are thankful she is going home to Jesus.
Ada Lee was preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn Whitaker and Onie Jester; her son, Bruce Whitaker and his wife, Carol; her brothers, Brodie Money and Ben Money; and her sisters, Ruth Whitaker, Lola Martin, and Ura Brown; as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law. Ada Lee is survived by her sisters, Lela Johnson and Doris Hobson; daughter, Peggy Castro; son Albert Jester and wife, Jenell Howell; grandchildren: Glen Whitaker and wife Margie, Kristine Whitaker, Andorrea Bogen and her husband Paul, Angelica Castro; and great grandchildren: Megan Whitaker, Elizabeth Bogen and Andrew Bogen.
