Steven Rushing

Steven Wade Rushing, 58, a longtime resident of Cary, NC, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday July 7th, 2020.    Born in Winston-Salem, NC on December 5th, 1961 to Ernest and Sandra Rushing, Steve graduated East Forsyth High School in Kernersville, NC in 1980 before leaving his hometown to attend college at nearby North Carolina State University.  It was in the Raleigh/Cary area that Steve would spend the rest of his life, learning, working and making friendships that would last his entire life.  After a successful career as an IT Project Manager with the National Center for Health Statistics, he retired and remained in the Cary, NC area, visiting with friends and family.  Holidays and the annual beach trip with his family were special times he looked forward to each year. Never married, Steve built a second family in the Cary area, one built around an incredible group of close friends with whom he would share so many great times.  Whether gaming, having dinners out, going to the movies, or simply having dinners with them in his apartment, he loved this family and they loved him.  Those friends would see him through many trying times, as his health and mobility waned.   He is survived by his father, Ernest Wade Rushing; his 4 brothers, Scott Rushing,  Jody Rushing, Todd Collins, and Keith Smith; one uncle, Rodger Rushing, 5 nieces and a nephew, Nicole Rushing, Katie Friend, Amanda Whittington, Stephanie Whittington, Lindsay Rushing and Ian Rushing; and a number of cousins and other family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Walker Rushing, and his sister, Susan Renee Rushing.   We want to thank his close friends and co-workers for all the kindness, love and support you offered Steve throughout his life including dear friends Jim Hart (deceased), Bob Eldridge (deceased), Sam Adams, Sandy Hemenway, and Barry Hales, Chris Middleton, Richard Glover, and Janie Wermter,  and Shirley Carter.
