Ms. Patricia C. Samuels, 77, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the Transitions Hospice Home in Knightdale. She was born in Gaston County on December 31, 1942, to the late George and Carrie Bessie Sadler Cunningham. Patricia was a member of Hope Community Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved to read, especially novels by Mary Higgins Clark, shop, do crossword puzzles, and play with her dog, Precious. Patricia was a Registered Nurse, who obtained her degree from the Kate Bitting Reynolds School of Nursing, and later became a sister of the Chi Chi Chapter of the Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority. She was a pioneer for integration as one of the first black nurses to be employed at Forsyth Medical Center.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kia Coles and husband Craig of Knightdale; two grandchildren, Craig Coles II and Kyndal Coles; her brother, George Cunningham (Peggy) of Durham; many loving nieces, nephews, and friends; and her best friend, Linda Samuels of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service will be held in her honor 2:00 PM Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, officiated by Bishop Paul F. Lanier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the American Stroke Association, 10 Glenlake Pkwy NE, South Tower Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30328.
