Mrs. Otelia Simmons Robinson, 95, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Salemtowne Retirement Community. She was born in Guilford County on September 24, 1923 to the late Charlie Franklin Simmons and Ethel Lee Roberts Simmons. Otelia was a member of Griffith Baptist Church. After the death of her husband James Robinson in 1984, Otelia became a volunteer at the Salemtowne Retirement Community in various roles. She spent 25 of those years working with the Activities Director until she became a resident of Salemtowne in 2014. In addition to her husband and parents, Otelia was preceded in death by sons, Charles Robinson and Jerry Robinson; two brothers; and daughter-in-law, B. J. Robinson. Otelia is survived by a daughter, Simone Robinson of Sarasota, Florida; a daughter-in-law Brenda Robinson of Lewisville, NC; grandchildren, Winn Clopton and wife Kristin, Lynn O’Donnell and husband Dan, Angie Kimel and husband Matt, Kim Robinson, Jennifer Robinson, and Christina Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Opal Wall. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Matthew Sink officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salemtowne Employee Appreciation Christmas Fund, 190 Moravian Way Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. The family would like to thank all Otelia’s special friends at Salemtowne that stood by her since 1984.
