Mr. Orville “Red” Dewey Hayes, Jr., 88, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Red was born on October 23, 1930 in Forsyth County to the late Orville D. Hayes, Sr. and Pearl Reavis Hayes. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the NRA. Red was owner of Red Hayes Auto Sales in Clemmons for 68 years and traveled throughout North America as an auto trader. He also loved to golf and fish, especially fishing for salmon in the Pacific Northwest. Red loved to travel with his wife Virginia and they enjoyed spending time together working on projects and in their yard. He also cherished spending time with his many friends golfing, going to car auctions and just hanging out. Most of all, Red loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings; and one nephew. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 25 years, Virginia Church Hayes; two children, Darryl Hayes (Lorri) and Jeffrey Hayes (Evenda); three step-children; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Capps; a special nephew, Stevie Drane; and several other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Friends Baptist Church in Clemmons, with Pastor Daron Osborne officiating. A private burial will take place prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance.
