Mrs. Powers was born in Sanford, NC Sept. 11, 1921, to the late Robert Alton Thomas and Callie Pittman Thomas. She had lived in Winston-Salem since 1948 moving from Durham, NC. She was a member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church since 1950. Mrs. Powers retired from North Carolina Baptist Hospital after 35 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Wesley Powers, Jr. and two daughters Rita Charm Powers Brewer and Joy Lois Powers Young, son-in-law Henry Kerley Young of Winston-Salem, NC, and nine brothers and sisters. Surviving are four grandchildren, Ashley Butner Baker of Palm Beach, Florida, Renée Butner, Erica Butner of Charlotte, NC, and Wesley Brewer. Two great grandchildren Anna Baker and Veronica Baker of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, several nieces and nephews and a dear friend Teena C. Graveline of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday December 20, 2021, at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC with Pastor Mike Duffield officiating.
