John Albrecht

Surrounded by his children, John Raymond Albrecht, 90, passed away on December 18, 2019.  He was born on September 22, 1929 on the south side of Chicago, IL.  After graduating from St. Rita’s Catholic High School, he went on to receive his degree in metallurgy from the University of Illinois.  He began his life-long career with Inland Steel at the mill in Gary, IN, and he transferred to the Detroit, MI area in 1968 to handle the auto industry accounts.  Upon retirement in 1991, he served as a consultant for the Phoenix Group for several years.  He moved to North Miami Beach, FL in the mid-90s and then to Sarasota, FL in 2003.  Always the teacher, he found himself leading the “Talk & Tone” water aerobics class at the YMCA for over 10 years before moving to Bermuda Run, NC in 2018.     John’s life was always full of family, good friends, great conversations and laughter!  He was an avid traveler, sailor and gardener.  He was a natural leader, and he quickly found himself as the president or board member of every group he belonged to including the Boy Scouts of America, the US Power Squadron, and too many social groups to list!  He loved his family deeply and unconditionally.  He is survived by his daughters Lisa (Steve Slaber), Dana (Brian) Leonard, Jill (Roy) Ash and Tara; his grandchildren Kyle Leonard, Lottie & Jacob Ash, Adam & Lauren Slaber; and his daughter-in-law Lou Ann Suits Albrecht.  He is predeceased by his son Kerry Albrecht and his brother Donald Albrecht.  His loving family will be memorializing him in true John Albrecht fashion in Key West, FL on Father’s Day weekend June 19-21, 2020.
