Mrs. Jewel Dean Elledge Cook, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Purlear, NC, to the late James Alfred Elledge and Mamie Blanche Blackburn Elledge. Mrs. Cook graduated from Griffith High School in 1949, and after her marriage at nineteen years old, she joined New Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary and was a lifelong active member. She was proud of her sixty-five-year marriage, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and cooking and will be remembered for being a generous and caring lady who loved her family. Mrs. Cook retired from BellSouth (AT&T) with over twenty years of dedicated service.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, William “Bill” Russell Cook; an infant son; two brothers: Bruce and Bryan Elledge; and a sister, Martha Myrick. Surviving are two sons: James Randall “Randy” Cook (Lori) and Stephen “Steve” Russell Cook (Vikki); a daughter, Julie Cook Hart (Greg); eight grandchildren: Tyler Hart, Jessica Miller-Hart, Ryan Cook, Haley Cook, Jordan Hart, Zack Cook, Weston Cook, and Joshua Hart; a great-granddaughter, Braelynn Miller; a sister, Carol Elledge Koontz (Reg); a sister-in-law, Pauline Cook; many loving nieces and nephews; and a long-time family friend, Bill White.
A funeral service will be conducted in her honor 2:00 PM Sunday, March 31, 2019, at New Friendship Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Chris Byrne. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to New Friendship Baptist Church, 4258 Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
