Edwin Vega Rivera

Mr. Edwin Orlando Vega Rivera, 70, passed away on April 19, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Edwin was born on November 10, 1948, in Puerto Rico to the late Alberto Luis Vega and Josefina Rivera. While working at his family’s coffee shop he met Susie, the love of his life and future wife. Susie’s family owned the grocery store across the street and loved Edwin as their own. They married in 1985 and had one daughter and the light of Edwin’s life, Jamie. Edwin beamed with joy and was a proud and loving father. As Jamie grew the family’s missionary work spanned from Puerto Rico to El Salvador. Edwin loved the lord with all his heart and he touched many lives through his evangelism within the deaf community. He was a very talented tradesman who through teaching shared his passion for baking, gardening, and woodworking. Once Jamie was married with a family of her own, Edwin and Susie moved to the United States to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Edwin was an adoring grandfather who enjoyed spending time with and watching his grandchildren grow. Edwin and Susie were blessed to find their home church with Salem Baptist Church. Edwin cherished his church family and made many loving friends. To know Edwin was to love him, he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Susie Ann Rios; one daughter, Jamie Rodriguez (husband Antonio); two grandchildren, Yahir and Emma; six brothers, one sister, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Kivett Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Milton Williams Fund of Salem Baptist Church, 429 S Broad St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
