David Gant

David Wesley Gant passed away in his sleep the morning of December 14, 2018. He was born February 7, 1934 to Martin Carl Gant and Elizabeth Pearman Gant of Greensboro. He was married to Virginia Hudson Gant and had two children from the marriage; Martin Preston and Wesley Lee; He also had three daughters from his first marriage to Patricia Pridgen; Carolyn Gunter, Lynnette Corbett, and Kathy Held.  He was the grandfather to 9 and the great-grandfather 9.

David was proceeded in death by five brothers, Archie Martin, Carl George, Clarence James, Raymond Lee, and a sister Dolores Marie Owens.  He graduated from Rankin High School in 1952 and worked for Cone mills before moving on to Western Electric in Greensboro, Burlington, and Winston-Salem and retired from AT&T. For years he lived in Sedalia raised his daughters with his first wife and raised eggs for Holly Farms in Sedalia on Gantwood Lane (named for the family). In 1978, he moved to Belews Creek with his second wife, Virginia, where he operated a small farm and raised his boys.

As a father he will be remembered by his children for his love of the outdoors, his family, and all the animals that were on his farms; whether we brought them home or he did.  In each he inspired a love of learning and a curiosity for the world around them. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious work ethic. There was never a problem he didn’t think he could fix, and most he did. He was always friendly to others and never went a day without making someone smile.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 2:00PM at Antioch United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
