Mr. Charles Melvin Farmer, Sr., 99, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was born July 13, 1919 in Pulaski County, VA to Ethel Owens Farmer and Haven Howell Farmer. Mr. Farmer was a veteran of the United States Navy who served during World War II. Melvin came to the Winston-Salem area to work for Kroger. He was a Meat Manager for over 40 years. He enjoyed farming, camping, fishing and going on beach trips with his family. Melvin never met a stranger and loved his church family at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers and grandson, Brad Farmer. Surviving is his loving wife of 71 years, Jean Bolt Farmer; a son, Charles Farmer, Jr. (Sandra); two daughters, Beverly Anderson (Gilbert) and Brenda Thomason (Bobby); five grandchildren, Tara Desautels, Bert Anderson (Lisa), John Anderson, Jimmy Anderson (Linda) and Josh Thomason (Jessica). Also surviving are his great grandchildren, Francois and Dominik Desautels; Lucy, Sarah and Mia Anderson. A private family graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park with Rev. John D. Rights officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Konnoak Hills Moravian Church, 3401 Konnoak Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
