Brian Glenn Bettes, 58, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at his home in Lewisville, North Carolina. Brian was born on the Last Great Day of the Feast of Tabernacles on October 13, 1960 in Pasadena, California. He graduated from Ambassador College with an Associate Degree in Theology and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, followed by a Master of Science Degree in Computer Information Technologies from Regis University. He last devoted himself to teaching American Sign Language to 147 students at East Forsyth High School in Kernersville, NC. His strong passion for the ASL began at age 10 when a young deaf 25-yr old man at his church had no one to talk to; out of compassion Brian was inspired to learn the language which ignited a 14-year career and mastery of ASL as a professional Interpreter in CA, TX and NY. He was known by his family, friends and colleagues as a dedicated educator, prolific writer, aspiring pilot, and servant who had a true love and commitment to whatever he put his hand to. Brian was the epitome of a dedicated Christian who strove to live a Godly way of life in everything he did. He was ordained an Elder in 2003 and served any and every one he came into relationship with. He loved God's Word, passion for teaching the truth, and sharing "life lessons" abundantly with everyone. He was a man of integrity, possessed a truly sharp mind, a witty character, and a man described by many as 'larger than life'. He uniquely used humor to work through most of life's challenges or simply "lighten the mood" with funny one-liners. He often applied the Stephen R. Covey "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" program to grow relationships with every person he met. Who can forget his infectious smile, sense of humor, and beautiful singing voice?!? Brian is survived by his wife, Kristin Renae Bettes of Lewisville, North Carolina; three children, James Austin Mangels (Natthicha), Jared Preston Mangels, and Leanna Rachelle Mangels, beloved family pet, Harley; previous wife, Sharon Gunn Neel; two children, Daniel Scott, Alissa Riddle, grandchildren, siblings, Annette (Bettes) Weinerman (Al) and brother, David Bettes (Carolyn), in-laws, Dennis & Karen Benson, 2 nephews, 1 niece, 10 great nephews, 2 great nieces, 1 great great nephew. Preceded in death; parents; Allen and Charlotte (Howard) Bettes, grandparents; Henry Lewis & Mary Lucinda (Sanders) Bettes and Rollo Phelps & Mary (Matheny) Howard. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 6685 Shallowford Road, Lewisville, North Carolina 27023.
