Mrs. Betty Jean Stevens McGee, 81, passed away on Saturday September 17, 2022, at her son Steven’s home, surrounded by family. She was born on November 19, 1940, in Forsyth County to the late Harvey Walter Stevens and Alene Tatum Stevens. Betty spent her career working in accounting at Sears and was extremely proud of her work. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville. Betty was a social butterfly who loved spending time with her friends and her children and grandchildren. She took pride in earning the superlative in high school, “generally speaking she was generally speaking.” Betty will always be remembered for her great sense of humor and was loved for her ability to make people laugh.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kenny Stevens and her husband of 56 years, Raymond Eugene McGee. She would tell you 60 years, because she remained devoted to him even after his death.
She is survived by her two sons, Steven McGee and wife Paula, Scott McGee, and wife Robin; four grandchildren, Kristina McGee, Katie McGee Barker and husband Noah, Kathryn McGee, and Michael McGee; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her brother Donald Stevens and wife Brenda Stevens.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family expresses special thanks to Donald and Brenda Stevens and family, Carolyn McGee and family and Betty’s very special group of life-long friends and extended family who have all supported her for years and have been a rock to her and her family. Her life was made more special because of all of you!!
Donations in Betty’s honor may be made to CurePSP at 1216 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
